***Rule Changes for the ODH***

License renewal continuing education: If your current biennium ends AFTER August 1, 2008, you will need to attend 12 hours (2 days). Digital imaging will be taught in the Saturday session. If you have previously attended a 6 hour program, please select the opposite day for 6 hours of ongoing continuing education to meet your 12 hour needs for renewal after August 1, 2008.

Non-licensed applicants for training: You will need to attend a 2 day program since the content will include the new topics of principles of digital imaging, patient care, contents of the law, etc.


I am the founder of S.T.A.R.S. (Specialized Topics in Areas of Radiologic Sciences). I have 30+ years of professional experience in medical radiography as a program director for a school of medical radiography in an acute level 1 trauma center. I have a Bachelor¹s Degree in Natural Sciences and a Master¹s Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Toledo.

Accreditation & Program Objectives

All sessions have been approved by the Ohio Department of Health to fulfill requirements as published in the law (Ohio Administrative Code 3701-72-04) for the training of general x ray machine operators and for the continuing education of general x ray machine operators, radiographers and other radiologic science professionals. Each year, the course is revised to meet the changing needs for the state license examination and the relevancy of new information to radiologic science professionals. Since the law was implemented in October, 1995, S.T.A.R.S. personnel have provided courses to thousands of general x ray machine operators and radiologic science professionals across the state throughout the years!

Private classes can be arranged on Radiation Protection for General X-ray Machine Operators at your location and on the date(s) you select! Stay in your neighborhood, save personal time and enjoy a personalized class to meet your needs!

All you need is a room to show slides and a minimum of 6 participants or more!If you do not have 6 participants in your practice, call others and create your own group in your community!

  • A $50 mileage reimbursement will be added to hold a private class with 6 or more participants within a 100 mile radius of the S.T.A.R.S. office in Toledo, Ohio.
  • A $75 mileage reimbursement will be added to hold a private class with 10 or more participants within a 101 - 150 mile radius of the S.T.A.R.S. office in Toledo, Ohio.
  • A $100 mileage reimbursement will be added to hold a private class with 12 or more participants within a 151+ mile radius of the S.T.A.R.S. office in Toledo, Ohio.
  • A 2 day program will require a 1 night hotel reservation if you are located over 100 miles from the S.T.A.R.S. office.

***TRAINING SESSIONS FOR NON-LICENSED PERSONNEL***

Upon successful completion of the 12+ hour training course, registrants will meet the academic requirements as published by the Ohio Department of Health to apply for the state license examination for general x ray machine operators.
Training registrants must attend both sessions on Friday & Saturday & must bring a SMALL CALCULATOR!

***CONTINUING EDUCATION SESSIONS FOR LICENSED PERSONNEL***

If your current biennium ended AFTER August 1, 2008, you will need to attend a 12 hour (2 day) session both Friday & Saturday. Digital Imaging Principles will be taught in the Saturday afternoon session.

***ODH CLINCAL EDUCATION CENTER REQUIREMENTS***

Non-licensed applicants in training to obtain a gxmo license and licensed gxmos who want to upgrade their license to perform digital imaging procedures will need to attend an ODH Clinical Competency Center and successfully complete the clinical positioning module(s) in your practice. Please visit the ODH web site for a listing of current providers.

You may attend our programs to receive partial continuing education hours for the time you may need to satisfy the 12 hour biennium requirement if you received some continuing education credit from the clinical competency center.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Over the past decade, I have never cancelled a course based on low registration, inclimate weather, etc. due to the fact that some registrants are on a tight deadline for license renewal. Personal safety for all of us is a priority. If we experience inclimate weather, please use your best judgment by planning enough time for commuting to our location, selecting the safest route and/or arranging hotel accommodations. The ODH does not allow us to leave early since we must complete the required 300 minutes each day and make up time would need to be scheduled. You may choose to transfer 1 or both days to another location if your time permits. I do not provide refunds when the course is provided. Feel free to call to confirm a course or to discuss your personal needs. Private course offerings may cancel at their discretion and are responsible to inform the participants in advance.

  • A 75% refund will be provided for notification of cancellation before 7 days of the conference date.
  • A 50% refund will be provided for notification of cancellation within 3-6 days of the conference date.
  • No refund will be provided for cancellation within 48 hours OR for failure to attend.
  • Cancellation before 7 days of the conference date will be assessed a $10.00 charge to cover processing expenses.
