S.T.A.R.S. (Specialized Topics in Areas of Radiologic Sciences) is a well established, inexpensive quality provider of home study materials for training and continuing education for General X-ray Machine Operators (GXMOs) also called Limited Scope Operators (LSOs) and Limited Scope Radiographers (LSRs) and nurses.

State Licenses: These training and continuing education credits apply to state license requirements in Ohio. Please check with your state licensing organization if you are not practicing in Ohio and concerned about acceptability since individual state rules change over time.

Home studies have been approved by the Ohio Department of Health for licensed GXMOs and non-licensed applicants for the state exam.

S.T.A.R.S. personnel provide various consulting services which include, but are not limited to:
 
providing individuals, administrative staff and/or physicians information and assistance with the contents of the Ohio Administrative code regarding GXMO license processes;
utilizing home study and online services to minimize time, costs (the fee structure is based on 50 minutes of instruction for 1 contunuing education hour), and time away from work, home and family;
arranging and finalizing in person clinical competency training at your practice when there are multiple people involved;
discussing inquiries regarding employees and/or practice situations in an advisory capacity;
acting as a liaison with the Ohio Department of Health and/or the current GXMO exam administrator;
providing ongoing assistance to course participants with communication by telephone, emails, letters on the same day or within 24 hours or less (I do NOT accept TEXT messages because many times the response may be lengthy and warrant additional return texts by the participant);
working collectively with other educators to optimize quality services, when requested; and
retaining a hard copy and computerized database of records for participants, the Ohio Department of Health and/or the current GXMO exam administrator for 3+ years.
